Pizza for a Cause: Nimitz High School Culinary Arts on Monday, December 17

Posted on Posted on

Did you know that both David and Mike Cole attended El Centro College in Dallas studying culinary arts?  That know-how has translated into years of quality Italian specialties (at i Fratelli Ristorante & Wine Bar) and our famous thin-n-crispy pizza.  The brothers recognize the importance of fostering interest in the culinary arts among students of all ages, and David Cole acts as a mentor and guest speaker at many institutions.

The Coles were recently invited to the Conrad Hilton College of Restaurant and Hospitality Management at the University of Houston to share the story of the founding of i Fratelli.  The Hilton College has begun the task of organizing and cataloging archival material from our 25 year history, which will be part of the collection of the school.

Your pizza purchase (or your lunch or dinner at i Fratelli Ristorante & Wine Bar) on Monday, December 17 will support the Nimitz High School Culinary Arts program.  Just mention Nimitz when you place your order at any i Fratelli location.

Support Project Transformation on July 9 with Pizza DoughNation.  Just mention Project Transformation when you make your purchase at any i Fratelli location.

http://www.projecttransformation.org/

Project Transformation is a faith-based organization that provides free after-school and summer day camp programs to approximately 1,000 low-income children and youth in the Dallas community. This organization hires over 100 college students annually to run these programs, giving participants a young, positive, energetic role model to emulate, to help with their studies and to share life with.

For every 40 large pizzas that are sold, Project Transformation can afford to send one child to its summer day camp program for a week, which provides literacy instruction, arts and crafts/recreational games, a nutritious meal and snacks, and enrichment activities and field trips. Please help us serve children and youth in the Dallas community by purchasing a pizza or throwing a pizza party on July 9th!

June 25 sales at all locations benefit Crossroads

Purchase take-out or delivery at any i Fratelli Pizza location, or dine at i Fratelli Ristorante & Wine Bar on Monday, June 25 to benefit Crossroads Community Services.  CCS is “nourishing people & powering change.”  Just mention CCS and 15% of your purchase total will go to feed our neighbors right here in DFW.

In 2011, CCS provided over 13,500 individuals with 1.3 million pounds of nutritious food, enabling our clients to prepare 1.1 million healthy meals. Roughly half of those we serve are children (17 years and younger) for whom proper nutrition is critical for growth, as well as success in school. Our food distibution program allows our neighbors-in-need to stretch their budget further, and helps them to continue to put food on the table for their families without sacrificing their health needs.

Proclamations, Pyles and “The Prisoner”

Current Events

The Sauce was captivated with Greater Dallas Restaurant Association President (and i Fratelli Brother) David Cole as he delivered his “2012 State of the Association” address.   Dallas Mayor Rawlings followed with his vision of making Dallas “The Best Customer Service City in the Nation.”

Food Glorious Food

The Sauce celebrated to-the-max at Samar by Stephan Pyles.  Wow!  Casual, urban, with small plates for sharing.  Start with the spicy, kicky Chaitini.  The menu is inspired by Spain, India, and the Eastern Mediterranean, but TS fell in love with peasant food… Potatoes and Chorizo with fried egg… it was the addition of foie gras that made it fit for a king.  Try the Short Ribs in Ginger-Garam Masala with Saffron Rice matched with spinach-goat cheese naan.

TS and i Fratelli are family,  so enjoying a meze of tapas “family style” is how we roll.

In Vino Veritas!

“The Prisoner” was paroled and “released” into the custody of guests enjoying the Thursday Weekly wine tasting event last week at i Fratelli Ristorante & Wine Bar.  It was an adoring crowd.  Orin Swift Cellars scored with this blend of Zin, Cab, Syrah, Petit Syrah, and Charbono (you say Charbono…I say Bonarda).  Soooo good with the grilled lamb chop.  MacArthur HS class of ‘79 and ’81 grads gathered and swapped stories.  We invite all Old School pals to do the same.

Musica, Musica, Musica

While searching for new i Fratelli Pizza locations, TS has developed an in-car-addiction to the SweetJack song.  TS and i Fratelli are known to love the canine and would love to host this clever puppy on any Wednesday in April when we start our Spring version of Smooch Your Pooch.

Overheard:  Nelly Furtado playing over the speakers at the Keg this week

TS (The Sauce) recognizes it’s the most wonderin’ time of the year so we’re wonderin’ whatever happened to Nelly Furtado?  For those who say she was a one-hit-wonder…wrong.  http://www.nellyfurtado.com/

Egypt will always have the Nile River, The Sphinx, and The Pyramids at Giza, but how many tourists will abandon an adventure to Egypt if by Sharia law they eliminate booze, bikinis, and co-ed bedrooms?

The Halls are Decked

The Sauce (TS to his friends)… wishes a Peaceful Advent, a Merry Christmas, and Happy Holiday Season’s Greetings to all who like this time of year.  TS announces enthusiastically that the decorations  are up at i Fratelli Ristorante & Wine Bar so gather your family for holiday get-togethers.

Festive surroundings for imbibing and noshing!

Friday Night Lights

Congrats to those Bishop Nolan Vikings and David’s son Aaron Cole as state champions in TAPPS Division I. It was a Cole family affair in Temple last weekend as many made the drive.  The Brothers are enjoying the State title vicariously as no championships were earned back in our supposedly “good ol’ days”.

David and Sandra Cole with son Aaron

Southlake’s Carroll Dragons are still in the title hunt against Skyline.   We don’t have a store in the Skyline neighborhood yet, so GO DRAGONS!

Beer and Wine of course!

St Arnold’s Christmas Ale is on tap at i Fratelli Ristorante & Wine Bar. Don’t forget that Samuel Adams Winter Lager and the passionately popular Maredsous 8 makes its seasonal visit on draught.

Modus by Ruffino is a new addition to our list. Such a sophisticated blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cab.  Look for the Modus label painted on the brick in the lobby (though it is presently covered by a Christmas tree you can remember and spy it after the holidays). Try Modus with our Steak Gorgonzola tapa.

TGIF!  Happy Weekend to all
